We are pleased to announce the release of a cassette of classic organ music performed by the talented Berkshire organist Derek Barker. 'Heritage Organ' features music from a range of composers, including Bach, Couperin,Brahms, Karg-Elert and Vaughan Williams. It balances the mellow, sweet tones of the organ at St. James' Parish Church, Finchampstead with the grandeur of Wellington College Chapel organ. Derek Barker's tragic death in June of this year placed an abrupt and untimely end to a talent which has entertained many in the Berkshire/Hampshire/Surrey border areas. Derek started to learn the piano at age 5, changing to the the organ at 15, because it got him out of games afternoon at school ! He continued his studies at Durham University, where he was Organ Scholar. He had a special affection for the music of the French Classical period, and also of early 20th Century works. He held church appointments since leaving University and was organist at St. James', Finchampstead for the last 12 years. He will be sadly missed. To order a copy of 'Heritage Organ', simply print off the order form available at this web-site.
